Musica Monday

Hello there fellow readers~

Today I am going to bring up a music video that I feel is very interesting.  It is rather unusual when I take hours looking into a music video, but this special gem has captured my attention.  It is called La La La by Naughty Boy.  Before discussing this song/video, I urge you to watch it if you haven't already - as first impressions will carve out your initial thoughts.  If you are ahead of the gang and have seen this already, skip down after the video :P

So I am going to break this down into what I feel are the 3 easiest ways to do so.

Number 1:

This seems the be the straightforward approach to interpret this song, and that is by the lyrics themselves.  I can see applying this to perhaps a relationship, a rocky one at best.  A relationship that is very damaged and resulting in one of the members not being able to stand the other at all.  But even if you change the lyrics or see them a bit differently, it only seems to tell part of the story.

Number 2:

The wizard of Oz.  Yup - you probably guessed it by the heart.  But starting from the beginning, the kid leaves his home as Dorthy did, heading into the unknown with his dog.  He meets the tin man, who seems to have false happiness in the gym.  So the child buys him a heart and shows true love, adventuring forward.  Next the scarecrow joins the team to find oz.  They travel long and far and eventually find the spot with oz - the tin man leaving knowing love and the scarecrow leaving with calmness in his mind.   This leads to the boy talking with oz and going home.  Alright - It is a stretch.   But it has some resemblance, but still is rather shaky in the comparison at best.  Leaving us with option 3.

Number 3:

This is the actual basis for the song, and lines up easily the best with both the lyrics and the video.  A Bolivian legend from the from the 19th century.   It is about a deaf boy who fled from his abusive household (as seen in the beginning of the video) and finds a stray dog.  He lives on the streets and discovers he has a special talent of perceiving people's troubles.  These troubles can be healed by screaming.(la la la in the song) His screaming is said to be as loud as an earthquake and a tornado.

Eventually the boy finds a man who is being stoned by villagers while being taunted and ridiculed.(the radio man) By screaming, the boy resolves the situation and revives the old man's heart (the boy buys a new heart for him).

Together, they meet a disfigured man who was abused, and is considered a leper by society. The disfigured man reveals that he is a prophet who was cursed by the demon El Tio - because he didn't worship him. So he left like any sane person would :P

El Tio is considered as the lord of the underworld, to whom mortal people offer gifts to him in order to be protected by him or to ease his anger. The prophet says anybody who could hear the demon will fall under his control. The disfigured man explained that the demon could be found in desert remains.

This place was once a town in which people worshiped the El Tio - he cursed them to kill themselves. So they trudge through the desert to find a mine where the demon is located. The trick is anybody who enters and could be cursed after hearing the demon speak. So the boy alone goes into the mine to meet the demon and over voice him with his scream to stop him from cursing others.  WHEW!

Interesting Right??? So in all, I don't think there is a right or wrong way to interpret this song or music in general.  The legend certainly made the most sense to me, but that may not be the same for you.  But I do find it fun trying to figure out the meaning behind some of these interesting artistic pieces and if you stuck through all the way til here - I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!!

As always, thanks for reading!
Have a wonderful day!!!

Musica Monday

What's a holiday song that everyone knows but we can add a few different twists to? The Twelve Days of Christmas!!! There are so any different versions of this song that I'm not even sure what to do with them anymore. So, I'll share the same song that I did last year because it was and still is my favorite song for the holidays. I'm not exactly sure why, but it is!

Happy Holidays, dear readers!!
Love,
Sara :)

Musica Monday

Hey folks. So, things have been interesting lately in my life. I'm not really going to expand on that much because I'm still working it through myself. Sometimes things do take more than one period of thought in order to figure out. I will say that those who know are looking at me a bit different and are working just as hard as I am to try and figure out what to do now.
To describe the mood I'm in right now would be impossible. There are so many emotions running through my head right now; music is really the only thing that I can come up with now that could even come close to fitting my mood, and even there I'm struggling a bit. The best that I can come up with for now is a few Avril Lavigne songs that come pretty close and do pretty well.

I hope that you guys enjoy these songs! I know that they are a few of my favorite of hers.
How are your weeks going? Finals are almost done! Then it's senior week, which should be a lot of fun, then home and surgery (finally)!
Maybe I'll move to London...that'd be fun!
Love,
Sara :)

Musica Monday and a Challenge

Today was the last day of Monday classes of my undergraduate career. How crazy is that?! I suppose I should find some music for celebration? I'm not sure, I'm a little worried about the real world since I have been living in a sort of bubble this entire time. But I'm ready for what life is going to throw at me!
Pretty much, I'm in quite a good mood right now, I've been crafting this afternoon, making some cards that I'll show later on once they're finished :P Nor particular holidays in mind, just wanting to make some. Anyways, going on with my creative mood, I'm gonna play a song that in my opinion is just kinda fun. It's called "She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby.

I'm not exactly sure what it is about this song that makes me smile so much, but it is seriously quite a lot of fun!

So, my task for you guys this week is to find some fun music and to just enjoy yourselves for an hour or so. How about this: tomorrow, whenever you start getting to that point where you are over stressed, be it because of school work, finals, work, family, friends, whatever, just take a moment to pause, catch your breath, and then play your 'fun song' (this one or one of your own) and stand up and just dance! It doesn't mean that you should dance well, I mean come on, I don't do that at all, just shake and jump around and let yourself loose for a bit. Take a break and forget about the stress for a little while. Have some fun, guys! We in this world are way too serious at times, so let's change that and add some fun in place of the eternally stressful. What do you think? Worth a try?

Love you all!
Sara :)

Musica Monday

So, I have been racking my brain for what I should use for this week's Musica Monday. I decided to go back to one of my older posts and put it into Pandora! I really must say that that is a really wonderful way to get new music, btw! For this week I have decided to use a band called Jem. I found them when I looked back into the group The Pierces. They actually sound quite similar (or so I'm told :P), but all I can really say is that I find her voice interesting and nice! I hope you enjoy her music as much as I have been as of late :D

This song also apparently appeared in the Sex & the City movie! Fun fact there :P
Have a good Monday! I only have 3 days left of my class this month!! Then it's time for another week long break, then back again for my last semester of school! :D
Love,
Sara :)

Food for Thought - Skyfall

Hello fellow readers, today I have been graciously invited to write up a post on the backup zone.  Looking through the history of the blog, there has been a tradition of Musica Monday's.  And although not every one has been on a Monday, they do tend to bring you readers some interesting and hopefully very fun and thoughtful music.  So I said hell, why not jump on the train.  My first guest post is going to be mostly about music, and in this case, the song Skyfall.

So November 9th is Skyfall's release date, opening up another door in the long line of bond movies that started in 1962 with Dr. No.  Seems like so much has changed since then, but even back in the 60's that same bond theme that we all know was around and sounded like this:

The bond theme never really changed much, and still gives the same chills it probably gave back in the day. (Not sure if I am really old enough to use that saying, but I will give it a shot.)  And starting from Dr No, the music in the bond universe has grown immensely over the 20 some movies produced.  The bond movies have used many various artists and motifs through their history, and this finally leads me to today's song, Skyfall.

This song features the popular Adele, showcasing her in the type of music that I feel she is at home.  Her voice just has that great range and interesting sound that just seems to mesh perfectly with the classy background that is very popular in bond movies.  It took me a few listens through the song to really get into it, but now I think it will be a great song to be played over the credits of the movie.  It could end up being like the movie Tron, where the majority of the audience watched the credits just to listen to music.  But I want to hear what you guys think, you be the judge.  Is this song a hit or a miss?  Should I do more guest posts? Did you like this topic? I am going to say its a hit, and I can't wait to see the new movie!

Thanks for reading everybody, and enjoy the day!
