Musica Monday

Hello there fellow readers~

Today I am going to bring up a music video that I feel is very interesting.  It is rather unusual when I take hours looking into a music video, but this special gem has captured my attention.  It is called La La La by Naughty Boy.  Before discussing this song/video, I urge you to watch it if you haven't already - as first impressions will carve out your initial thoughts.  If you are ahead of the gang and have seen this already, skip down after the video :P

So I am going to break this down into what I feel are the 3 easiest ways to do so.

Number 1:

This seems the be the straightforward approach to interpret this song, and that is by the lyrics themselves.  I can see applying this to perhaps a relationship, a rocky one at best.  A relationship that is very damaged and resulting in one of the members not being able to stand the other at all.  But even if you change the lyrics or see them a bit differently, it only seems to tell part of the story.

Number 2:

The wizard of Oz.  Yup - you probably guessed it by the heart.  But starting from the beginning, the kid leaves his home as Dorthy did, heading into the unknown with his dog.  He meets the tin man, who seems to have false happiness in the gym.  So the child buys him a heart and shows true love, adventuring forward.  Next the scarecrow joins the team to find oz.  They travel long and far and eventually find the spot with oz - the tin man leaving knowing love and the scarecrow leaving with calmness in his mind.   This leads to the boy talking with oz and going home.  Alright - It is a stretch.   But it has some resemblance, but still is rather shaky in the comparison at best.  Leaving us with option 3.

Number 3:

This is the actual basis for the song, and lines up easily the best with both the lyrics and the video.  A Bolivian legend from the from the 19th century.   It is about a deaf boy who fled from his abusive household (as seen in the beginning of the video) and finds a stray dog.  He lives on the streets and discovers he has a special talent of perceiving people's troubles.  These troubles can be healed by screaming.(la la la in the song) His screaming is said to be as loud as an earthquake and a tornado.

Eventually the boy finds a man who is being stoned by villagers while being taunted and ridiculed.(the radio man) By screaming, the boy resolves the situation and revives the old man's heart (the boy buys a new heart for him).

Together, they meet a disfigured man who was abused, and is considered a leper by society. The disfigured man reveals that he is a prophet who was cursed by the demon El Tio - because he didn't worship him. So he left like any sane person would :P

El Tio is considered as the lord of the underworld, to whom mortal people offer gifts to him in order to be protected by him or to ease his anger. The prophet says anybody who could hear the demon will fall under his control. The disfigured man explained that the demon could be found in desert remains.

This place was once a town in which people worshiped the El Tio - he cursed them to kill themselves. So they trudge through the desert to find a mine where the demon is located. The trick is anybody who enters and could be cursed after hearing the demon speak. So the boy alone goes into the mine to meet the demon and over voice him with his scream to stop him from cursing others.  WHEW!

Interesting Right??? So in all, I don't think there is a right or wrong way to interpret this song or music in general.  The legend certainly made the most sense to me, but that may not be the same for you.  But I do find it fun trying to figure out the meaning behind some of these interesting artistic pieces and if you stuck through all the way til here - I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!!

As always, thanks for reading!
Have a wonderful day!!!

Musica Monday

Ok, things have been a little crazy lately, and not so much in the real world sense, but more in my head. I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about what I want from this world and what I should do with my life. My boss has actually asked me several times where my head is at during work, and she's right, because my head is somewhere else. But thing is that I spend quite a bit of time with my thoughts in my head, and it's really one of my ways of coping with what I'm feeling and what is going on around me. So, maybe that's what is actually up. I think I'm getting tired of people asking what's wrong with me because this is who I am and frankly I like it, if you don't, that's your problem not mine. I want to share this song with you today because it is really a great way of getting across how I have been feeling, I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling this same way! This is "Fade Away" by Matthias (check out his YouTube channel too!), enjoy!!

Musica Monday

I'm visiting the punk pop world for this Musica Monday. but first I want to clear up some things. Just because a song is referred to as pop, that doesn't make them a 'popular' band. Allow me to explain briefly: what 'pop' means is that the music is derived from 1950s style rock and roll, which was considered popular music at the time. While the terms 'pop' and 'popular' are used interchangeably, 'popular' music can refer to any genre of music and not specifically to 'pop' music. 'Pop' music tendsto be short to medium length songs that follow a simple chorus-refrain pattern and often times repeat the same melody over again. 'Punk' music is also interestingly enough derived from the same base: rock and roll, only this time from the 1970s in the USA, UK, and Australia. These songs tend to be short and often times politically motivated with at DIY ethic (meaning usually bands use their own record label to produce their music). Just thought you might like to know!
The band I want to introduce you to today is a combination of these two genres in one. They did in fact use their own recording studio, and their songs aren't too long, but they also use the chorus-refrain pattern in many of their songs. This band's two main members actually announced in July that they are expecting their first child this November. I'm introducing you to the Dollyrots. They have a unique sound that I've become a fan of simply due to their intense beat and the fact that they aren't afraid to be themselves and try something a little bit different. They've been around since 2000 and I hope that you guys enjoy this song of theirs called 'Satellite'.

Musica Monday

For the past two weeks or so, one of my best friends has been dealing with a tough breakup with her army boyfriend of two years. He's finally coming home from Mississippi, and they got into an argument (which has happened before...) and it doesn't look like it will get solved this time. My friend has been trying to get ahold of him but to no avail, and has been asking me in turn what she should do. I'm not the best with this type of things especially since I was not a big fan of how he treated her lots of the time during the pie relationship, but he made her happy, so he became OK in my book.
Anyways, I've been listening to my new CDs lately and there is a song by a group called Lillix that made me think of my friend's situation. When we are going through hard times, whether it be a tough breakup or a death in the family or just someone leaving, we all get a bit of an empty feeling inside. Or is that just me? Well, if you agree you should listen to this next song by Lillix called  "Tomorrow". I think it completely addresses many issues that have to do here. I should also say that this is not my favorite song of theirs but it is the first that I heard which means that it does have a special place in my heart (kinda like your first Doctor....oh wait....I'm being a nerd again :P).

Also, I tried to post this last week but apparently I failed...I'm super sorry about that!!

Sara :)

Musica Monday

Wanting to be accepted is part of being human. This starts to become especially apparent when we are in middle school, when we first really witness cliques and friend groups forming. I'm sad to report that I have seen this begin even before in elementary school, because it has become less important for kids to accept people because of who they are and more important for them to fit into the accepted social group. Obviously I feel there is a problem with this, but I really did not want to go into this because I'm not sure when I would stop. I was bullied and I know many of you probably were too.
But what if we forget about being accepted? What if instead of submitting to this status quo that never leaves (seriously, high school never ends....another great song btw!) us, and instead we stay ourselves and stick with those who love us for who we are? I've been helping a friend over the past few years get through a few guys who have been complete jerks to her and before she found her current significant other it was hard and she found that people were weirded out by who she was when she acted hyper or childish one minute but then professional and smart the next. It took a while but she has found someone who loves her for who she is, no strings attached or anything like that. This is where I have found myself for the past year and I am happy and super content to stay right here where I am :). I think Nick Jonas wraps it up quite well in this song. And yes, Nick Jonas, one of the Jonas Brothers, he's got an awesome voice! Enjoy people!

Musica Monday

I've spent enough time on YouTube looking at different artists that some of my recommended songs have become something other than anime and mainstream pop. Today was one such example. One of my recommended videos was entitled "VanLadyLove - Neverland (Lost Boys Remix)", my first thought: Peter Pan? So, I clicked on it and listened. The video was artistic, a little odd, but to my liking! And the music was quite wonderful! Much more acoustic than some of the things I have been listening to recently, which is a nice twist. There aren't many songs out by these guys as of yet, the other one I found that was an original by them is called "Maybe Not Forever". Their covers are also quite lovely, a distinct acoustic that is very pleasing to the ear. These guys I think are definitely someone to watch! Enjoy!
